Day Four in London

Today we started out with the intention of visiting Windsor Castle. We took a tube to the train station and hopped on a train to Windsor (it's a short ride, but not accessible by the normal tube system). Once we got there, however, we found out that the castle was closed for the day for a ceremony. It turns out that it was the Garter ceremony where people are awarded the highest honor they can receive from the queen: The Most Noble Order of the Garter. There are only 26 people who can hold this honor at a time.

At any rate, since we couldn't go in, we decided to head back to London to do something different. We went over to St. Paul's Cathedral, a beautiful cathedral with the second largest dome top in the world. We climbed the 500 or so steps to the Whispering Wall (where you can hear one persons's whisper all the way on the other side) and up to the viewing platform at the base of the dome. It was a lot of steps, but the view was well worth it. We also went downstairs to the crypt where Florence Nightengale is buried.

After St. Paul's we walked across the Millenium Bridge and over to Shakespear's Globe theatre. It's a recreation of the original theater most of Shakespears plays would have been performed in. We toured it and learned a little about its history.
